13 – The listener

Please enjoy this guided meditation to bring you deep into the theme of gate 13 – the listener. Listening is done not with our ears to sound (that is hearing) but with our whole body to all that is. Deep inner listening becomes deep inner knowing. The sound of our soul is the sound of all souls. We are all that is, all that has been, all that is yet to come. Listening reveals that to us.

IMG_5387Every day on retreat, we write little inspirational quotes on chalkboards propped up on trees and walls around the site. Today’s chalkboards are on a theme, following a conversation with some of our lovely guests at breakfast yesterday morning. They were asking about my life choices – the origin of which I have written about on this blog – but in a nutshell, I had a corporate life, it was pretty nice, I felt successful and had a nice house, friends, leisure time, etc but there was a bit of me that felt like it was slowly dying and that bit was the spirit of adventure.

Raw Vegan Five Layer Goddess Cake

Actually, that title should probably read, ‘Radiantly extravagant, (mostly) Raw, (definitely) Vegan Five Layer Tropical Fruit Maple Pecan Birthday Cake, but it wouldn’t fit in the title bar.

Happiness is… a silent retreat

I haven’t practiced yoga and meditation for very long in the grand scheme of things; both in the scheme of my years on the planet to-date and the scheme of comparative experience to others on the path, many of whom have been at it from a very young age. However, I count my blessings daily that not only have I been fortunate enough to encounter these teachings at all in this life, but that the opportunities to study with some incredible teachers have come my way, ensuring that I don’t spend years or even decades, digging down a blind alley in the misguided hope that it will bring me the ultimate cookies – deep inner peace.

This (extra)ordinary life

This week I went to London to hear Jeff Foster speak. Next week I am going to study with Burgs. Today, as I sit in my teacher sandwich, I reflect on, and look forward to, the continual lifting of the veil.  So grateful for these amazing teachers, patiently pointing out that although there appears to be a great lesson and a long journey, all that incredible stuff we want to experience is all here, already. Everything we ever dreamed of; love, acceptance, belonging, peace, joy. All of it is ours for the taking, right now. We just have to pay enough attention to really notice.

Blackberry & Coconut Macaroon Tart

Blackberry and coconut macaroon tartI love Coconut Macaroons, so when I spotted this recipe in Anna Jones’ ‘A new way to eat’ book I had to have a go, but I needed to fiddle with it a bit. I needed to pick my own fruit and use fewer and slightly different sugars. I used coconut sugar, which is soft and brown, so my middle bit wasn’t crisp and white like hers – here is my edited version of Anna’s tart.. Continue reading “Blackberry & Coconut Macaroon Tart”

Homecoming Lunch: pittas & fritters

Family and best friend food faces!
Family and best friend food faces!

All together again! Because I’m always on my travels I haven’t seen my bestest friends for a couple of years, so today three of them came over, I made a big celebration lunch for our reunion; we even Skyped in the missing one in Australia which was fun – it’s Saturday night over there so she was a bit far gone on the gin!

Staring at swallows

In my job, I work for 12 days on, and then have two days off and I’ve started taking myself up to a friend’s house in the hills behind the village to treat myself to a couple of days of complete rest. Fasting; long, slow yoga practices that can take all afternoon if I feel like it, with a little nap-break in the middle, formsilver birch skyal meditations, or just sitting watching a bee cleaning itself for 20 minutes. Just giving myself permission to do nothing and seeing what unfolds. Sometimes I read for a bit, then lie and stare at the swallows and wonder when they’re going to migrate north. May the fourth be with you

On the rare occasion that I watch the War & Money Channel (AyodaKA The News – thanks Matt Haig for that concept!) it seems like there is so much fear and greed that it’s becoming insurmountable, that it’s going to be too hard to overcome, so we might as well just join in the consumption and let nature take it’s course when a massive apocalypse wipes out the human race and the animals can all go back to enjoying their beautiful planet.
